I think if anyone has a vw with good motor they would sell motor for more than that on its own.

Wouldn't be impossible to find but the saying "needle in a haystack" comes to mind. Maybe you might have to consider upping your reserve. Glue yourself to ebay for a couple of months, you might get lucky.

Well I sold a '72 standard in fairly tatty condition but all original, complete and running well (but didn't always want to start) for $300 last year. Knew I shoulda asked more, but I just wanted to move it on and not get hung up on haggling.
