info needed, 1600 engines

hi everyone i have just picked a 72 kombi up for practically nothing, now it didnt have a motor which wasnt a major as thats fairly easy to sort or at least thats what i thought, i picked up a 73 with 1600 engine and box with the intention of swapping it over only to find the engines seized, iv got a 1600 bug engine sitting at home which we bolted up thinking it was the same only to realise that it doesnt have anywhere to bolt the rear brace to, how can i get away with using the beetle engine? If its possible

a 72 should be able to use a 1600 to a 2 lit, and still have the early front with step so you have a wide selection of motors
