When it's in your blood...............

I've been lurking here for a while and it's probably time I said hello.

I didn't want to say too much until I finally purchased my latest VW, but the deal was done a couple of weeks ago and there is another 76 beetle in my possession.

This is my third now. The first was a 76 that I inherited from my mum and then there was a 69 some years later.

I'll post s few pics of them next week when I have some more time.

The real work on the new car will start next year and will no doubt be a project that will take a couple of years.

OK I know I promised to do this a while back, but I've been lazy/busy

Here is my first bug, its a 76, it was originally my morthers car, but she decided whe didn't really wna to drive it anymore after we put extractors with a hot bog on it. I had it sound tested and it ran at 96dB.

It sported Carrera guards all round and front spoiler, 14x7's all round with 205/60 and 225/60 rubber, Recaros, sports steering wheel, 20% tint and VDO gauges.

It was mechanically stock apart from Monroe hydraulic shocks up front and Pedders gas sports riders up back. It wasn't the fastest car around, but it handled like a dream. I used to leave car behind on the twisty bits, but no where near enough grunt to get away on the strights or up hills.

This one a one owner car...sort of. My mums, from 1976-1988, then mine from then until it was written off in 1991 when some silly vow in a Colt backed out of a driveway in front of me. Otherwise who know I might still have owned this car.

And this was my third car and second bug. It had a 1600TP and Genie sidewinder exhaust, the Recaros from the white 76, sports steering wheel, full set of VDO gauges and a fairly big stereo, 12-stacker, 2x10" Kicker subs, amps, 6x9's and 6" 3 ways, Berg shifter, 14x6's up front and 14x7's at the back (which were too wide), one piece window kit, full alarm system with central locking which was quite rare for a bug in 1995.

A lot to like about that car, but unfortunately it had to be sold to make way for a sensible car for work as I had to do a lot of driving.

and here is my latest acquisition, another 76 Beetle, lovingly cared for by another VW fan over the last 27 or so years.

It is kitted at the moment, but this car will be returning to steel bodywork, with GL theme.

mechanically its pretty stock

Anyone interested in the kits, wheels etc, please let me know. They will be for sale in the not too distant future.

All in all its pretty straight and clean, but it will be getting a full makeover. Work probably won't start ntil next year and when progress starts, I'll start another thread for it.

If anyone has any ideas, thoughts etc, please feel free to let me know.

The mission will be to build a streetable cruiser with a bit of get up and go. It will never be a track screamer, more a car I can drive everyday with pride!
