Wild ride - Dirt buggy action (VIDEO)

This is some footage of one of my car club members in his off road buggy. Its not powered by a VW engine (Nissan SR20) but the buggy uses a lot of VW stuff. Cyril has dame good car control and he is a top bloke as well. Fark he can drive.

Enjoy

Was that a hand throttle over on the right. Didn't seem to be a handbrake the way he was moving it all the time???

Kev

Steer Brake- he can apply the brake to each back wheel. So he will apply it to the inside wheel to help get him around, or even may apply it to a spinning wheel.

No its a hand brake. Generally they are a double action thing. Push forward is it works the left side. Pull back it works the right side. Or vise versa.

I saw him race years ago.

http://www.geocities.com/peterwood732/cyrilact1.JPG

he had a rover V8 that day as the SR20 had blown up and he hadn't had time to find another one.

he won the event outright against WRXs and very powerful escorts. The car is driven and steered at the backend.

http://www.geocities.com/peterwood732/cyrilpedal.JPG

this was the pedal setup the day I saw the car.

...and he's a pretty amazing driver too.

That is the old system Cyril use to use. The left brake pedal (2nd from left) was used to steer the rear left brake. The right brake pedal (2nd from right) was for all 4 and the hand brake was used to steer the right rear. I think he has changed the system now. All buggies are set up with turning brakes. It makes them so much faster on the tight stuff.
