the split bus with nudity

I tried just removing the image, and the forum blatted the entire thing.

I'm afraid the image fell under the "no pink" rule. As there were no guidelines prior to tonight, and you had to use an image processing utility to raise the brightness to see her bits, I'm not warning anyone.

To replace the split bus that was lost, here's another site for your split bus pleasure.

1. Open up the image in an image processing program, like the Gimp, Photoshop, or similar.

2. Go to the brightness adjustment. Ramp it up until you see something.

3. Go to the contrast adjustment, fiddle with it until you get to see even more.

Trust me, you could see her bits.

Serious - it's like 2 seconds work for anyone who knows how to drive an image processing program. It took me much longer to type in the post on how to do it than to actually do it.

And yes, you can see a lot more on a beach... but then there's these wishy washy bits which are used (wrongly) to censor computer games in the classification guidelines. Stuff about demeaning, the right of people to not be subjected to things that they find offensive, and context.

Analogies always break down. You'll find that on nude beaches:

- most nude beaches require significant effort to get to them, and then on to them

- everyone wants to be there

- everyone who is on a nude beach knows the context - it's for getting an all over tan and having a good time with other people getting an all over tan and non-sexual in nature

- no one is busy trying to do a chickenshot for a camera (a naturalist friend of mine frowns upon people with cameras at the beach he goes to as they're never up to much good)

A Very very interesting society we live in. So next time I get a bit of a handle on the beach that means I'm offended.

Ok, I'll have to remember that.

57kombi. How many more times do I have to tell you that I have fought strenously against the current censorship regime and continue to do so?

I've written submissions for the senate, and wrote the talking points for the guys who had the time to go talk to them when the committee was here in Melbourne. I've met various people who write the stuff for the talking dickhead Alston and given them pieces of my mind. I've been an active member of Electronic Frontiers Australia for some time, and have done things like bought copies of 1984 and sent them to politicians when this legislation was up. I've been in positions where I know that ISPs have been helping certain agencies spy on entire online populations and brought it to the attention of the right people to make the spying more compliant with the legislation rather than just ASIO's slurp the lot and then filter regime.

Unlike the few people complaining about me creating policy against porn (which is different from nudity), I have *done* and continue to *do* stuff about the censorship regime we have to live in Australia.

So don't tell me about censorship. It sucks. If we can get someone to revoke the stupid amendments (as they simply don't work) in the future, that'll be a great boon to us all.

But in the mean time, I'm afraid the no porn without an AVS is Australian law, and we're not free to ignore the bits we don't like.

> I dont care if you have fought to protect our rights

Good for you. Benjamin Franklin wrote:

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

Welcome to the Australia of 2002. In 1999, we lost the liberty and the right to discuss and post what we want on the Internet due to apathy. If you want it back, you'll have to fight for it. Join the EFA and do something about online censorship.

Brad

> Who gave you the right to delete the picture.

Brad has spoken to me about this. It wont be happening without consultation with the forum gods again.

> Who gave you the right to do it without talking to the other users of this forum

Me, and it was a bad call on my part without first consulting Brad and Jim. If I think something is in need of a good deleting/banning/policy making, I've been e-mailing Brad and Jim and getting their views as of late last week. More often than not, Brad or Jim will probably end up doing the actual deletion, blocking, or banning, as per Satan/Lindy Lui earlier tonight.

> Who gave you the right to make the rules on this forum

Initially, I was bringing them in line with the laws of Australia. Everyone seems to forget this bit. Anyway, moving right along, Brad and I have chatted about this, and policy will now always come from Brad or Jim, not me. I might put in my 2c worth, but there you go.

> Who gave you the right when you are not even a modorator.

I am one of the administrators, and about the only one who can code, do mysql, performance monitoring, security fixes, etc. Think of me as a moderator of all forums and then some.

But to re-iterate, my moderation activities will only occur if existing moderators fail to act (as in the Satan/Lindy Lui case earlier tonight) and I get agreement from Brad/Jim on an outcome. Unless I think it's urgent to get rid of something such as kiddie porn or a death threat (which have never been posted as far as I can tell, but I'm giving an example of the extreme sort of post that would force me to act without consultation). Unfortunately, due to bugs in the code base, bad things happen to posts I really just want to hide for the time being. This will pass as we move on to later, less buggy versions of the code.

Andrew
