The culprit turned out to be faulty wires and plugs! Sent it To Bernie near Lane Cove to give it a tune and fiddle, the timing was all over the shop!

Hey boys and girls, I'm thinking for Christmas I might buy myself a new set of wheels - I'm a little over the ones I have on and I vowed when I bought it I would change them the next day (yeah, money would probably help).

I'm still a little unsure what to get - I was thinking

or
http://www.tempetyres.com.au/content/products/bg_fusion%20ssd.jpg

but concerned these could look pretty average. Any ideas?

I was also thinking these:

Apart form this, my thoughts were resting on color coded stockies with white-walls or EMPI 5-spoke.

Thoughts?!

Cheers and Big Ears,
Ollie

First ones are too German look for your car me thinks. I know it's not a pre68. Only modded to look that way. Just decide what sort of period look you want to go for. Also, consider the cost of changing the stud pattern, and if a. Rake upgrade is on the cards.

V. Good point with ze german ones. I'm going for a Cal look - those ones are much too wrong. Yeah the patern is an issue, I've got 4x100 (i think) on the front and rear, so it leaves me with a little more to search for!

I made a thread about cal look wheels a while back, I'll post a link later on. :) you sure they are 4/100?? Have any clearer pics of them??? Your very limited as to vw wheels then as it would have been 4/130 originaly. You can get discs and drums made to other patterns though.

You will have to change back to the vw stud pattern though if you wan't those..
Best bet would be to go to a wheel and tyre shop and see what they have in your stud pattern that YOU like ;)

theres a huge range out there for 4x100 rims cos its 90% of the 4 stud cars since late 80s

funny, ive actually been looking at a set of advanti tenzos which are almost identical to the first pic

youll find though anything over 16" will limit your turning circle without a narrowed beam

Ok - perhaps not 4x100? Whats the size of the original VW pattern that's 4 lug? Or The Type Three pattern (I have T3 front discs)?

Also, has anyone used the adapters from 4 lug to 5 lug? Any disaster stories?!

Yo a small update for the bug!
I passed my pink slip! Now this might not seem that amazing to you guys, but I have never once passed a rego test first go.
It's always, "this is leaking" or "that is wrong" or "that's not a car, that's a goat."
So I'm pretty stoked. I was horrendously worried when the mechanic went to open the engine bay - my engine does not match rego papers - but I think all he did was look at it to confirm there really was an engine there! He was quite impressed with the brakes (which is great 'cause I need new pads).
Although not NEARLY as exciting as STIDUB's updates, an update none the less!

Also, I found the dream...

Cheers and big ears,
Ollie

Small update with the bug!
After a week off the road and a clutch cable change I drove the car down to a mates place to find that my clutch pressure plate has now decided to pack up and die.
I always knew it was on its death bed, I was just praying it was would be after my planned trip overseas (in September)! So now it'll be off the road for a few more weeks while I save up to replace the clutch! Whoopee! My mates Trek 4300 Mountain bike is looking to be a beautiful daily now!

To add insult to injury, I just ordered the no. plates "DUB.83N" - not much use at the moment!

Cheers and very sad beers,
Ollie

I can't swap anything at this point sorry mate - anything other than the clutch is a bit of a non-event right now.
Will let you know asap for the future though!

It's just a pain that I really didn't want. But hey, as my Dad just said, "Thats what you get for buying a 40 year old car..."

Sadly he's always right
