earlier this year i fitted a turbo to the EJ22 in my kombi:cool: bloody fantastic but it was just an experiment to see if i liked turbos...

well it turns out i do like turbo power in my kombi but i took it all back off cos know it needs all sorts of tech stuff if the engine is to survive...but driving NA is no fun:fakesniff:...so bought this

Rob, I'm a bit surprised you're going to all the effort of putting in the EJ20 when you loose 200cc. The Ej22 is a great motor and lots of guys in the US are running turboes on stock motors to great effect. I guess some forgies might be a good upgrade down the track, but otherwise, they have a reputation for being the strongest block available and heads aren't too bad either.

The strongest block is directly related to a Closed deck and the bearing thrust is accross the range of motors. A USM b22 turbo motor in extreamly hard to find.

One can build a very powerfull motor by using a ej22 motor , ej25 crank, sleaving the case & fitting say V3 sti heads. This is 235 cc

If any one is looking to build some thing like this I have a set of lagacy heads

what i thought would take a couple of weekends turned into 5 weeks to swap engines:grind:

there was a lot of things to change to fit the DOHC engine...its those big heads...plus i use reversed water and inlet manifolds

anyway today i turned the key and it fired right up...havn't got the camera mount to do the Joel hillclimb footage yet but trust me...it goes pitchooo when you change gears:lol:

here it is at startup

Here we are nearly six years since i installed an EJ20T in my kombi...its been great since my son and new grandaughter moved up to hervey bay...about 4.5 hours away...i was going up there to visit once a month and it was a blast...the thing will do 150 @6000rpm in third....great for overtaking!

But they are back on the coast now so my kombi just sits there...so have decided to go exploring this great country again and want torque not turbo...so picked up an EJ25 short motor...having been inspired by Joel...will fit some EJ22 heads i have and minimal else apart from head gaskets and hope for the best...heheh if it needs more rebuild i'm sure it will let me know!
