EJ22 timing alignment

mmmmm, I took off the timing belt covers in preparation for rebelt, cam seal replacement and noticed that the right cam timing indicator is one tooth anti-clockwise. The inlet manifold on that bank was carboned up.
Any prognosis about possible damage/rectification proceedures?

Best thing to do is start with lining the marks up correct with the belt removed . Then refit the belt , mark the timing marks with a white paint pen & the cam wheels so you can see them clearly.

subaru sell a top end cleaner its in a can, get ahold of some of that, instructions are on the can. do this in the open air as it will fuck you up in a closed area.

yeah a fair bit of crap on that side, in and around the valves. I reckon it's been firing with slightly open valves.
Top end cleaner while on the stand inverted, then maybe a leak down?

yeah I read that the arrows on the pulleys are the marks BUT the overhead gear rocks off them, so they have offset marks.
Whichever way you look at it, the timing is still 1 tooth out and right bank has been blowing back up the inlet manifold.
Who does good rebuild work around the Gold Coast?

Brian, looking at the diagram, these indicators line-up and are correct.
The right pulley on "my" engine is one tooth counter clockwise, it doesn't seem to vary, no matter how carefully I look at it!!!

Whip off the belt and rotate it. That's what happened on my mate Kev's scooby install.
When he took it for a blast later on he accused me of bolting on a turbo when he wasn't looking.
Do you have the 'anti-jump plate' above the crank pulley?
