Rod Young in Sydney dry-sumped his 1835 '69 Beetle back in the mid- 80s. He isn't active in Club Veedub any more so I dunno if he still owns
it.
I think he used a Shadek two-stage oil pump (the scavange pump must be higher capacity than the supply pump). He used an ATF tank from a semi-auto
Beetle as his oil tank, together with various thermostats, coolers and electric gizmos that I only vaguely remember now. But he could prime his engine
oil system prior to startup from the driver's seat. He wrote about ihis mods in our club magazine back in the '80s.
He really knew what he was doing, but it was a hell of a lot of work. As to whether it was worth it - he never raced his Beetle so I dunno.

It might make you an extra horsepower if the crank doesnt have to slosh through the oil.
Might save you a crank if you are cornering hard enough to lose oil pressure.
Otherwise its not worth the effort.

CB Performance sells a dry sump system that is a direct bolt on for the standard oil pump. They also claim 9 hp on the dyno.

Jak
I've attached the link for it

Congratulations to Ben Durie for breaking the hillclimb record at Ringwood in his stroker beetle!
