Body panel help....please!!!
Would one of you knowledgeable Type 3 people please help out a beginner???
Would a late type 3 (1978) notchback engine lid, fit onto an early (1967) notchback? It 'looks' the same, but I guess looks can be decieving! Mine is pretty rusty and Doctor has a late one that I was thinking about
getting off him to replace mine....if it fits that is!
We are talking about the outside bootlid/engine lid panel that carries the number plate light housing....not the rectangular engine cover inside the
boot.
I realise that the number plate light housings will be different, just wanted to check the actual panel itself.
Do any of you guys know??
Cheers!!

G'day Paul!
They are all the same I'm pretty sure.
I got a replacement one once that was from a 71 and was painted orange from memory.
Type 3's were made from 62-73.
Cheers! Toby

Jason....thanks for the helpful input of " I have no idea" GOLD!!
As for you saying that I rock.....mmmm....dont know where you got that idea from mate. Personally, from my point of view, someone of my size normally
rolls, instead of rockin! Cheers for the compliment though mate!!
Hang in there with your bug mate, it will get there soon I am sure!
By the way mate, have you heard anything from Izac....do you know how his course is going and if he's well? I sent him a message on facebook, but I
know he's pretty busy with things so didnt really expect a reply, Cheers!
Hey Toby, thanks for your input too mate.....I thought that 1978 sounded too late....maybe I am quoting wrong (I didnt think they were produced that
late )
Visually, they looked the same, but I just wanted to be 100 % before committing to it....I guess I could cut it up and use the skin as it would at
least be the same curve asm mine if the complete lid didnt fit correctly.
By the way Toby....is there a thread on here for your Notch, coz from you avatar, it looks like a nice piece of kit....would love to know more about
it!
Cheers guys!!

Hi Paul! Thanks for the compliment! I did start one ages ago...sometimes I feel like I'm going backwards though! Not really got a lot online about
the car.
We ought to catch up one of these days and I'd love to meet some fellow Adelaide dubbers (especially type 3 owners!) since I'm new in town :-)

Yes they are the same including the numberplate light housing. The numberplate light housing may have holes in it for the chrome centre trim bit
including the "S" model from 1964/65. There will be different pin holes for the Volkswagen and 1500 script or the VW 1600 in the actual lid above
the numberplate light housing.

That's what it's all about.. helping a fellow dubber get their car on the road. Early type 3s are getting a bit thin on the ground so it's good
to see the interest in them. Now that Toby is in Adelaide, maybe he can find a "real" 1500S as I know there are a couple down there.

I can confirm that the late notch boot lid will fit as I have done exactly that on my 68. The licence plate cover is the same too.
