Half cages?

I have decided ist time for a cage to go in. after seeing 2 rollovers in 6 months of racing, iam thinking it mite be a good idea. Any body got any hints or tips for fitting a cage to a bug? just thinking a half cage, with diagonal, 2 rear bars and possibly tie them inot the frmae horns and shock mounts. Any other ideas?

mmm

I would tie it into the shock towers but wouldn't waste my time with teh frame horns. We tie teh buggy cages into the frame horms but that is because we don't have metal bodies on top. It is a PITA to do it in a bug.

I would go with a single hoop behind the front seats and two rear braces that goto plates joined onto the shock towers. If you don't want it to be a 4 seater any more than add a diagonal, but as soo as you do you have to get the seating capacity changed as you have hindered egress to the rear seating area which is illegal.

I wanted to put one in Wes's Baja when I made the support bars for teh V6 install but he wouldn't let me.... maybe one day while he sleeps :D

i have a half cage in my beetle which i built myself and is street comlianced as well as race approved.
simply a hoop bolted to the froor with 2 stays bolted to the rear parcel shelf floor and welded to the hoop. a diagonal brace is welded from the top of the hoop to the stay at the parcel shelf floor.
sorry i dont have any pics to show you as i cant get the digital camera at the moment.
the CAMS manual has all the relevant sizes and types of tube to use, as well as some designs

Hi

I have a 1/2 cage in my car, my engineer said I could leave it in and register my bug as a 2 seater or take it out. I had a bug rally car with a cross brace in it and it was a pain in the ass, I could never get my seat far enough back.
