Hey all,
I'm new to this website so I thought I'd post something to get some opinions and start feeling comfortable in how you guys work on here.
I Have just turned 21 been driving VWs for the last 3 years since I got my first square when I had just turned 18. Beautiful car that I should have
kept. (I'll try and post a photo)
My experiences with VWs are quite limited compared to some I have been reading about on here.
But I have had the one experience I wouldn't wish on any VW driver.
The old engine fire earlier this year on my beautiful original notchback. This car was amazing, completely original inside and out. The car had every
receipt of every service carried out on it from new. Which I luckily salvaged from the car along with the jack, original tool kit and a pair of socks
I had in the glovebox.
At least I have a lovely momento of this as it was displayed in SA's Advertiser as a half page spread and story. Had it serviced couple of weeks
before the fire. I guess it's just one of those things.(I'll try and post photo)
So if you saw some crazy people on the side of the road at the Bay to Birdwood Classic Car run in September this year "Shouting check your fuel
lines" at any VW that passed That would be me and my family.
I do apologise.
So I'm now looking for another type 3 wagon hopefully in SA, I have something posted in the buying/swapping cars section any help would be
appreciated.
Hope to get more involved in this website over the coming months and read a whole lot more about VWs and especially Type 3s.
Cheers
Bryce

So typical of the VW scene here in SA..... complacency and righteousness seems to be the norm which is why I am not in it. They can have it. Guess
you found out the hard way with what a 40 year old fuel system will do to your car....

if you insist on running them put it in the hose under the fuel tank
the metal ones do a much better job and dont leak when they get old and brittle

Funnily enough, it is rarely ever that the nylon filters are the cause.... below is the general order of causes;
-Poor fuel line
-Unsatisfactory clamps
-poor routing and components cutting into fuel line
-brass fittings coming loose in fuel pump and carbs
-fuel pump neglect(rebuild original every 5 years without fail/50000km of continual use if before 5 years max, rebuild/replace after any form of
storage longer than a couple of months without running).
-carb neglect(same conditions as fuel pump)
miss these items and you may as well stop by at the shop for sausages...

G'day.
Just wondering if anyone can answer a question.
I know the photos wont give a great indication but I'm wondering whether this squareback has original miles. It didn't come with the service history
and books so can't be completely proven.
Is there anything else I can look for apart from the mint interior to determine whether it's gone around once already?
It is reading 71K miles at the moment which is 113000km if it had gone around once it would have clocked up another 160K Kms. I don't think its done
over 270Km.
Thanks guys.
