webers

Hey all you type 3 'thusiasts, and lovers of lesser aircooleds, (just kidding I love them all). Was hoping someone could share some weber knowledge with me. Am looking at the CB Performance IDF kit for type 3, that comes with everything except carbs. I believe the 36 IDF's from Alfasuds and Sprints will fit these manifolds. Anybody done this? Love the Forum, cheers.

I have the exact set up you mentioned. Fire away with any q's.

Fits fine with plenty of room under the decklid.

The air filters are a bit restrictive, so am putting on some ramflow's when the second one finally turns up (the shop, naturally, only had one when i went).

I have 36 IDF's on the 1641 in my buggy. They work gret on a 1600 once you richen them up a bit. The air bleeds on the idle circuit are a little big (2mm). I soldered mine up and redrilled them at 1.5mm. That made a massive improvement. I also swapped from 47 idle jets up to 50's which helped a lot also.

Hi Mark,

How much of an improvement was soldering / re-drilling the air bleeds?

Ive got a mild 1915 and am running 60 idles. 32 vents also. From memory reading somewhere the 36's require larger than usual idles to counter the air bleed size?(i could be wrong). Is that what you found?

When i was running 36's i found the small idles worked best ( but blocked VERY easily)
1.25 x the body size seems to be the formulae

see here
http://www.aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/jetting.htm

There is a link called http://www.carburetorclinic.com/36_idf.htm  that is all about rebuilding IDF36s that is VERY good but the link doesnt seem to be working for me

mmm....thats the guy but that is excerpts from the article he wrote

Dunno if i agree with the jetting

Mine was banging BIG TIME with 50's in there

I was using F11
No way could i get the F57's to work

In the end i was

32 vents
F11
45 idles
135 mains
180 or 200 airs

Ran OK - would like to go back and try again with IDF 36s

Personally - when i had Webers i though Weber Dells, they are all the same
I now have DRLA40's
Chalk and cheese
Give me Dellortos any time

The improvement with soldering / redrilling the air bleeds is very noticeable. Not only does it richen them up but it removes a big flat spot on acceleration.
