SR20 Conversion


I'm looking at running a SR20DE in my Buggy (Swing axle Gearbox)... I have one little question though for those that have done it before.... I will order my Adapter kit through Volks conversions in QLD, Now... does their kit support both the FWD and RWD versions of the SR20? As the blocks are different... I have emailed them.... but no response yet. Just thought I'd ask incase someone has already done the conversion and has noticed the plate will do the lot... cheers :)

I'd be very surprised if any stock swingaxle box is going to handle an SR20DE for any length of time if driven properly. You need to upgrade to a kombi box or a single sideplate beetle box otherwise you are in for a world of sadness. For a buggy, the kombi box is the go to get the right ratios for tall tyres offroad.Re he adapter plate; it shouldn't be effected by whether the motor is FWD or RWD. It's all the ancilaries that will be effected, dizzy (if they have one), inlet manifold, etc. The adaptor is just the belhousing. I suggest you call Volks conversions if you have questions. John Sherman is a helpful guy, but I'm not sure he's an email type of guy.

Look at a Reno UN5 box and see if there can be a daptor plate made for it....

Are you sure you want an SR20DE? I don't think they would be worth the effort. I have driven both the RWD silvia and FWD pulsar versions and I wasn't that impressed. A friend has a N13 pulsar which he'd spent a lot of money on head work and it started to go ok. Depending on the version you get you'll have between 100-120kW roughly. In my opinion you'd be better off with an EJ22, particularly with the weigh distribution issues of a buggy.

Pete the bell housing bolt patterns are different between FWD and RWD
cant remember how much different been ages since i played with one of those

gotta agree with Wes, there a pretty top heavy lump, a boxer would be better suited for handeling anyway

There is a few sr20de motors running in bugges over here. All I have seen are in off road machines like mooses orange racer. Cad is on the sand scene forum and is build is listed there he has done some work to his machine.

Try Baker Bros in Melbourne, they have experience withthese in buggies (And gearboxes)
