You've posted this under 'Bugs', so I assume you are talking about a Beetle.

The VW windscreen changed several times. The small windscreen fitted to oval-window Beetles was enlarged in 1958 when the back window was made bigger too. This bigger windscreen was used on all subsequent 6-volt Beetles up to early 1968.

In 1968 the windscreen was made bigger again, with a very slight curve. This windscreen was used on all subsequent torsion-bar Beetles up to their end in 1976.

The 1971-72 Superbug S (1302 to Europe buyers) used the same windscreen as the 1968+ torsion bar Beetle.

The 1973-75 Superbug L used a new, much bigger windscreen - taller, wider and very curved.

Shocks - are you talking about beam front ends, rather than Superbug-style struts? Beam front ends were used exclusively to 1971. From 1971-75 you could buy the 1600 strut Superbug, or the 1300 beam Beetle. In 1976 the Superbug was discontinued, and for this last year the Beetle had a beam front end again.

All Beetles are 'Type 1's whether or not they are torsion beam or Superbug strut. Cabrios, Karmann Ghias, Country Buggies and 181s are all Type 1s as well as they are based on the Beetle.

You probably mean the last flat windscreen...
[and they aren't really flat]
which was 1976 in Australia...
it looked very similar to the 1968 beetle..

the 1303S or L beetle which had the large curved windscreen only lasted fromj 1973 to 1975 inclusive in Australia..

what was the last year for front end with the shocks like the type 1

again... 1976... same front shocks as the 1968 beetle...
these are the torsion bar ball joint front suspension..

the 1303S or L beetle had McPherson struts on the front..
1973 to 1975 models.. [VW year models]

LEE NOONAN

Overseas, it was a different story...
late South African Beetles looked like the late model 1303 with the large curved windscreen etc...
but underneath it was an early 60s beetle....

the last beetle made in Germany in 1978 was a 1200 standard beetle which looked like a 1964 Australian beetle etc ... Lee

your thinking of brazillian or mexi bugs Lee,

the last of the Emden Germany bugs looked like ordinary 70s bugs,
they were 1200s so had the no vent decklid and low back seats but everything else like bumpers lights etc and big windows were all standard euro spec

heres one of the of 300 from the 1978 last edition series
