Power limits of subaru air/water chargecooler


Just want to futureproof my set-up for higher bhp levels later on, far easier to do it now than when the car is all fully built up.

So, what are the highest power levels people know of for one of these? I'll be using an aftermarket pump and purpose built aluminium radiator for it up front...

I have an aftermarket Davies Craig pump on mine that has been hard wired to the ignition so that it runs flat out for the last 5 years!! God knows how it keeps going? I also have a alloy radiator up front for it.

The RS Liberty boys say that the standard Subaru WAIC or chargecooler is only good for 16pounds boost, after that its just too restrictive. I only run half that so the standard item is all I will ever need. If u want to go nuts , best u get one like Stevie's the PWR big barrel item. I can't wait for Steve to get his going, it will probably be the most powerful WRX conversion downunder. (hurry up Steve!)

Im running the standard radiator at the front under the car and the standard water cooler in the rear with a water pump thats found on torags and expensive bmw its the water pump they use to take hot water from the engine straight to the heater core, (so rich people feel warm the instant they start their cars)

about $50 bucks from a BMW wrecker.

Im running 20psi from a VF34 and the last couple of days its been 30 Degrees outside ive been seeing intake temps of max around 50 degrees.

havent had major full boost for minutes at a time yet so might get a lot higher but seems fine for the street!

Wow thats pretty high. Mine is usually around 5-8 d above ambient. Do u think the inlet temps are related to the amount of boost u are running? Do u have your pod filter in a sealed airbox away from engine heat?

I have seen intake temps on mine as high as 55d, thats on a 35d day after 6 laps flat out around Eastern Creek in Summer. So just under 12 minutes with the pedal to the metal. But thats on very very low boost compared to your monster.

How have u found the VF34? i've nothing but great reviews. When does the boost start & when does full boost come on, ie: what revs

Jak, your temps seem pretty good, not sure what variables make it better than mine, maybe better radiator up front, not sure? As you know with mine, about 14-15psi, pod filter hidden away, same pump as yours but I seem to average on the street somewhere between 10-15 higher than ambient, does creep when hitting boost continually, but also does drop back down again quickly as well.

Im thinking of running something like Steves as well, plus new radiator up front.

Hi Andy, I do think the radiator up front makes a big differrence, would be good to see u change that & see the differrence. When I come off the track for example, I touch my intercooler & it's only about room temperature. Even the return line under the car seems cool to touch.
But u do run more boost than me.

Jak , I have a gen2 liberty with a 2ltr GTB motor & a Vf34 fitted. Mate it goes bloddy hard ! , these are very good turbos
