Now on eBay Oz: CB w/the only known PTO in existence

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemnext&item=230450597066.html

Very, very interesting specimen.
Ambitious starting bid of $10,000 AUD.
I believe Bill has some familiarity with this CB.
Any more pics of this curious piece of equipment floating around?
I'm currently searching The Registry for ID on KO and VIN......seems like I've seen this somewhere in the past.
I am very curious to see what this goes for, given no other PTO is known to exist.
Truly a one off....

I have not seen this vehicle for 7 or 8 years but at that time is was a really good solid example with very little work required for a great resto.

Yes, it is the only PTO I have ever seen but do not be mistaken the piece sitting on the outside of the vehicle is not part of the original PTO. It is gearing that attaches to the drive shaft of the PTO to drive a band saw or similar that sits at the rear off side of the vehicle when stationary.I dont know if this band saw arrangement comes with the vehicle.

if the vehicle condition has held up since I last saw it the I dont believe the current asking price is far from the money mark

Thanks to you Bill for pointing out the mechanism on the outside of the body and apparently mounted to the rear bumper is not the PTO itself, but rather an attached mechanism driven by the PTO, which is located inside the engine compartment.
In my excitement to see some new pics of this rare bird, I neglected to note that detail.
Thanks to Graham for his continuing research. I finally found it in The Register, but he beat be to the draw on posting.

I'm not suggesting the starting price wouldn't be a fair sale price.
But finding a starting bid a 10 K might be a little tough.
Maybe a lower starting bid with a reserve the owner could be happy with might be a better way to go to elicit more interest from a broader range of prospective buyers.
The PTO adds an unknown value in my mind, one which adds substantially to the value of the vehicle, IMO.
The only question is how much added value.
:?:
Sure looks like a very respectable example to consider buying if someone is looking for a CB with most ofl its OEM gear.

Regards,
Steve

Well after ten days of auction for WALLY, there were no bids.
I can't say I'm surprised.
I suspect even though there may be potential buyers who might be willing to pay 10K (or more) for WALLY, none were willing to start the bidding at 10K. At least not at this point in time.
WALLY may well be worth more than the starting bid, but without a starting bid which potential buyers are comfortable with, we'll probably never know.
Again, with a lower starting bid and a reserve, if the seller feels the necessity, I believe there might have been more bites on the line.
The marketplace doesn't appear to support the starting price for this item at this time.
Things might be different a few months down the line.
The very rare and unique PTO feature may or may not be important to the average person looking for a roadworthy CB. If if doesn't really mean much to a potential buyer, then that person isn't likely to spring for whatever the additional value the PTO unit may add to the vehicle. It may take just the right buyer to accept this example with open arms, and it might take a while to find that person.

Steve, it only takes one person who has been hovering around on the sidelines.

I believe that Wally may have been sold to an unknown and non Ebay buyer who will add it to the shed already containing a large number of VWs . The existence of the PTO makes it a "one of a kind" purchase and together with a reasonable vehicle the package is a good one. I also believe the start price was close to the sell price.

More news when confirmed.

My sources tell me that Wally remains unsold at this time however there is an interested buying inspecting the vehicle this weekend.
Maybe the owner should think about splitting the PTO from the vehicle and maybe the pricing of the two "bits" would get closer to the wish price.
Not sure how you could ever price the only known PTO in existence, there is certainly no prior sale number to work from.

I wouldn't think its the only PTO, if you look on the sales brochure you will see the red CB is fitted with one used for drilling post holes.
