Would it be so wrong...
....to convert the rear window on my superbug (which will be highly modified and turbocharged) to a split rear window and "W" bootlid?
I recon it'd be kinda funky

indicators.

If you've got a modified one anyway, why not? It's your car.

Plenty of late model bugs around, if you want to do it go for it, but make sure you do a good job!

Get the dimensions right and any commercial fibre guy shoud be able to do it for you. If they bork - there too busy, too rich or useless or a mix of
all three.

my two cents worth.......
if you wanna modify your car thats fine but there is two things that make me angry when it comes to modifications....
1. people turning their beetle into a convertable, and
2. putting split or oval windows into cars which they do not belong.
i have seen this being done and its shocking, quite possibly fool a lot of people.
but as i said its your car go for it!
just my 2 cents worth

I've seen it done, and it looked pretty bad. The early oval and the late supers were completely different shaped cars. The wide bulbous superbug
front with the narrow pointy looking split rear looks really wrong.
I am all for modifying, but I can tell you that looks wrong.

decision from there)

Seeing as you will need the rear section for the w lid to latch it down etc and the curved screen will look bodgee I would try to find a sad spit body
and graft it onto the superbug floor if possible, that way you can have a hotrod bug and it would look very cool.
You would kinda be saving a split that would otherwise be gone
Cheers Tony

well the theory was to use one of those carbon fibre replica W lids so where it latches wouldnt be that critical as it'll probably be pinned
anyway.
it's a '72 SB so has the flat screen.
I may go for the new T1 body yet which would throw this idea out the window (hehe) anyway.
I dont think i'd want to cut up a real split/oval and it would be cut up to fit the mechanicals I am running...

The big change
Why do you need to worry what other people think. If it feels right for you-go for it.Do the job right and then enjoy your one of a kind Beetle.I had
to change the back of my Oval to get a big Type 4 motor with Porsche cooling into the engine bay, without shifting the trans and engine location.I have
changed the rear apron to a fuel injected late Beetle and used a 73 engine lid.I needed the larger rear apron to squeeze in a muffler and the late
engine lid for fan clearance and with the 4 vents allow in more air.
