31 Pict 3 and 009 Dizzy

Hi All,

so finally picked up my new beetle today, its a 1974 model, not like i thought and posted in the previous threads, with a 1600 engine, upgraded at some stage i imagine, as it has a 1300 badge...

runs like a dream, did the points, plugs, oil and timing today.. and really happy with the result.

but it seems that i have that dreaded flat spot, which is so bad that when pulling out turning right from a stop, i basically sit in the middle of the road for a bit..

sounds to me just like the flat spot that everyone here and all over the web describes.

so my question.

I have a 31 pict 3 solex, and its certainly has the vacuum advance port (currently sealed up)... is it worth me spending the extra cash trying to sort the 34 pict 3 NOW, or can i just upgrade the dizzy to the SVDA model, time it all up, and do the carby swap when i am ready later on??

also, if someone can give me ball park prices on the both the Dizzy and a carby upgrade, that would be awesome, so that i dont get jigged??

and the stupid question of the night, are the SVDA dizzys made by Bosch?? if so, would someone have a part number??

many many thanks guys

Matt

Hey, i ordered it from Jack at Gold Coast Veedub, got his number from VWM Aus.

Pm me if you want his details.

Was $230 for the Dizzy, and got a new Bosch coil too.

I have seen them for much cheaper (60 or 90 depending on where) but for this price they just have to be chinese spec and nasty. I have heard rumours about 40% failure rates. This one is from the states, and out of the factory in brazil i believe.. anyway, see how we go.. i dont think $230 is all that bad..

will be installing on the weekend, hopefully this fixes my problem, the timing seems to be jumping about at the moment..

Hi Guys,

I bought My SVDA BOSCH dizzy from aircooled.net in the USA
last year for $159-95US plus postage

GENUINE BOSCH... also bought Pertronix kit off them $75US

postage was $47US

the difference is AMAZING...

so smooth acceleration... instant advance as soon as You touch the accelerator... YIKES

I never knew they would make so much difference to the driving pleasure of My Beetle....

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED....

Lee
