Door seals

It's time to replace the door seals on my notchback.
Have been told that original items would be $300 or can
get aftermarket rubber for $40 per side. Has anybody used these. If so what was your experience as far as effectiveness and apperance.

I have heard/read that the original $300 ones are great.

ISP West in USA has just come up with a new alternative a couple of months ago. They are a continous extrusion with just the one join at the top corner of the door.

Apparently they are great and just USD$80 for a pair.

I bought the cheap ones recently from Classic VW - they are just a generic line that doesn't even fit lengthwise. Total false economy and will be buying genuines soon.

yes I got me seals :tu:

I must say, perfect fit. Just check the pic. Mind you I just rested the seal around the door and that is how good it lines up.
I pushed in 2 spots to see how it fit into the grove. :tu::starhit: Real soft too.

Recommended to all.

Guess that rusted out door was kept for a reason, practice on what I recon is the hardest part of the type 3 to dissemble/assemble

Good to know they fit, people have suggested the German ones at over $300. How much for postage for the ISP ones?

Hi Vlad,

Can you please post some detailed pictures of the sound deadening in that door? I need to try to reproduce this for my Fastback. Can you trace it as a pattern?

Thanks,

Jed

Hi Vlad,

Checked the catalogue, yes they do sell something, but from the picture it does not look stock. Can you trace them up, or, if that is a spare/scrap door, pull that one off as a pattern?

Regards,

Jed

It's a shame the DDB in the US isn't producing their seals any more - I've got a set on my square and they fit/work perfectly...
