Baby Seat??? 73 Type 3 squareback
Hey guys - great forum.
Looking at a 73 type 3 squareback, BUT the wife wants to be able to put the kid in the back, just in case. The baby seat needs an anchor point (and
rear seat belts).
Any advise on whether installing an anchor point would be feasible, without completely stuffing something (instigating a rust point etc.).
I know - a baby seat - but I have responsibilities these days....

Hey mate, I had a similar problem with a dual cab ute. Not sure where you are from, but in Victoria Vicroads has a list of restraint fitting stations.
They can help you with anchorage points etc. I am sure your local state or territory roads authority would be able to assist.

I had a '73 Squareback. It did have rear seat belts, lap belts on all 3 seats, but I couldn't see any obvious place to fit a child restraint bolt.
You would definitely have to get it custom fitted.

You can just see the anchor points just in front of the engine lid hinges.

Got a registered mechanic to put one in my Notch. The dearest part was the papers and Mod plate to certify the work!
Not hard to do, but when it's your childs life at risk, it pays to do it right!
Ain't been there, ain't done that.......yet :P

I drilled a hole through the top, back engine support between the tail gate and engine lid and bolted in the anchor point, installed lap sash belt for
the back seat in the middle to hold the base of the baby seat as the seat had an inbuilt harness, the seat was held to the anchor point with supplied
extension belt.
Later the anchor point worked to hold the expensive booster seat (more of a big baby seat) and lap sash attached through harness straps which was
attached to anchor point extension belt behind back seat.
Now I've removed the back seat and as no belts were initially installed (my daughter is a month off turning 7 and has been over 20kg for a long
time), with no air bag she can 'legally' be in the front seat. Until her birthday she requires a booster seat - even though she doesn't need it for
the front belt sits nicely over her shoulder due to the shape of the WRX seats and she is tall.
Soon I would like to install pre-tensioning belts in the front or full harness's and a roll cage.
I may even modify the back to have her booster seat as the only back seat because it looks like a mini WRX seat. Especially if I go the full harness
option in the front. Then cover all the seats to match.
Tuned Type IV power - shaking out the rust.
