Wakefield Park Last Weekend

The V-Force Beetles were out in force on the weekend. Four of us raced against the Porsches at Wakefield.

We were all trying pretty hard, subsequently we all had a spin at some stage. But Wakefield is good there's nothng much to hit.

The pressure was on the Porsches because the beetles are getting faster.

It was a bit too much for this one, a super charged 911 that absolutely hammers.

Unfortunately we were all too busy driving to have any beetle action shots.

Spent the weekend porting the Subi heads..........can't wait for the Spyder to be ready. Big turbo, big heads, LSD, traction and launch control!!!!!!Hmmm those last 2 might be later I think.:thumb

A full-on weekend

It was a great weekend. My car felt terrible on the drive to V-Force on Saturday. I lowered the rear suspension too much and the car was bottoming out and hitting the muffler on speed bumps. Not only that I had to remedy a blocked idle jet just 2 minutes up the road from my house.

Fortunately Richard came to the rescue with some gas shocks and some type 3 front bump stops. That made the car sit about half an inch higer and stopped it bottoming out. Thanks to Jak for helping me change the shocks.

It was cool cruising down to Golburn in 3 well turned out racing beetles. When we finally arrived n Golburn Deiter's green bug ran out of petrol. It's IDAs managed to suck 35 litres of fuel on the trip. My oval only drank 16 litres by comparison.

On race day things went pretty well. My car was a completely different car. It's lost it's nervousness and now feels chuckable. It turns in so aggressively it will throw the back out, however I've still got to work on the understeer it gets exiting corners. I'm happy with my time considering there still a lot of things in the car I need to sort out.

Jak was great to watch. We waited for eachother on every run so we could have a bit of a dice. I wish I had an incar camera because you'd all be blown away by Jak's car control. He was constantly sideways and occasionally on 3 wheels. He had is foot solidly planted the whole way. Absolutely awesome to watch. I thought he was gone on a couple of occasions but he kept into it.

Deiter did brilliantly getting into the 1:19s. He's only 16 and not old enough to drive on the road. It was his first time on the race track. His engine was still being run-in and sorted. His cars suspension isn't sorted yet and he was running on street tyres. The boy has balls and will kick butt with the right weapon.

Paul will also be a force with his R spec tyres, driving ability and 2110 engine. His car had a dodgy fuel pump on the weekend.

All in all an excellent weekend with a great bunch of people.

Just to put the times that you guys were running into perspective.

I was at Wakefield a couple of years ago, and the following times were recorded.

Nissan R33 GTR - 1.16.0
WRX STI - 1.16.0
Peugeot 306 GTI6 - 1.17.0
Mitsubishi FTO Tip - 1.19.0

In other words....you guys were flying! Job well done.

Slicks????

FYI, Yokohama A008Rs are not a slick. They are an R spec patterned tyre. They are actually based on the A008 street tyre.

The R spec tyres are made from a different compound and have a higher operating temperature of between 90 to 100 degrees C.

Unfortunately I struggle to get the rears that hot except in summer when the track is hot. The front tyres are even worse, I can't get any heat in them at all. After 5 hard laps the pressure only goes up half a pound. I have to soften the front end to make the A008Rs work.

Maybe we can all get some Yokohama A032Rs. I don't think they'll fit Jak's wheels though.
