ok
little bit of an update
ive still been unable to find a beetle within my price range i looked into ch3535s beetle he has for sale, seems beautiful but even the cost of travel to get it is too much
im thinking of options to help out with things and maybe something will come along, one option is to see if my old tech teacher (a porche nut) would be interesrted in an after coriculum project of his classes building one, the other more practical option is to organise it as an activity for my scout group as most would be allowed to compete. BUT i will have to see what the go is later if we are allowed to do it then find the car
in the mean time, mean while, during the mean (monty python) im helping my mate build his beetle into somthing, part of him wants a baja for offroad and rally the other part wants a streeter that will blow of hsvs, i personally dont think the first option is feasable on his budget

I'm still on track to build my MkII Baja from the 71 superbug that I have,
I have an already engineered pan though aproved for the Baja conv.
To build a serious offroader you might want to consider the following as you've probably heard that the Mc pherson struts aren't terribly strong offroad
You'll need to replace the pan head with one that will accept either the K&L pin OR Ball joint front end (I think Smiley has a thread showing that in progress)
(I just bought a K/L pin front chassis clip on ebay from Brisy for $100 Brand new)
and you'll have to either replace the entire front sheet metal with a one piece fibreglass front or replace front quarter panels and suports for a Baja kit
or custom widen and massage a Baja kit to fit as the Supers front quarters sit in a more upright position and are different in shape and length
I was going to go with the one piece front but I am now in two minds as I have an awesome wide set of bug eye guards that I want to use
and mount the lights on the front bar work
I decided to do mine from the super body because it was rust free so the work on the front guards etc is no worse than repairing rust
Good luck
Jade

yeah this car is in such good condition we are thinking of building it into a rally car more than a hard core offroad car

still looking to build a baja, talking to waveman about bits and peices for one, but it will take major work to build and we will be asking people iff they have some bits for sale or that they would be happy to go to a good cause

we need to work out the weak points on the superbug to strengthen
