002 bus trans questions
How much movement is permissable in the CV drive plates on a 002 bus box and how hard is it to replace bearings and seals on these boxes?
Would it be worth fitting a supadiff while its apart?
I do not know of any VW mechanics in my area to take it to for an honest opinion.

There should be no axial play in the flanges.
There may be some play in the splines of the flange though.
The bearings can be replaced with mostly normal shop tools,
except for a tool that can be home made to remove the bearing adjusters.
Get your self a good workshop manual if you want to tackle it your self.
Most likely there are other weaker links within the box,
that will fail before requiring a superdiff.

OK what workshop manual should I order most of the ones I have seen are incomplete or do not cover the 1975 australian transporter that makes up most
of what I have.
There is no noise in the transaxle but I have play on one side so want to investigate before I kill it and should be able to manage the basics.
Wheere is the best place to order transporter parts from in Australia. I am country NSW so no local shops for me.

I have found the bentley manuals to be the best,
but the Haines i like too, although have never seen one for the transporter.
Any of the big VW shops can supply the parts you need, but
if you get stuck on the gearbox side of things you can PM me.

Thanks for that I could not find the transporter manual anywhere.
I just ordered it
If I get stuck I will PM you but I dropped the axles off today and it looks simple enough just a matter of getting the right parts.

If the transaxle is out of the car you can take the bellhousing off real easy. replace the input shaft seal when it goes back together. flanges come
off when you pop the cup seal in the middle, then take the retaining clip off, slide the flange off, undo the 2 phillipshead screws and remove the
plastic cover. Now you can see the flange seals.
when you put it back together make sure you use the covers as they are to lock the diff nuts. if you have never worked on a transaxle box before
don't touch the diff nuts at all.
