Window Chrome Trim

Looking at this on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130446710237&ss...

Roll of chrome trim for around windows. Has anybody ever used this type of chrome insert before ? Any advice, is it difficult to use?
What size do i have to buy it in (comes in 3 different sizes) ? How long to do all 4 windows on a '71 super?
Do i have to put it into the rubber prior to putting the windows back in ?

I would ask the seller for a cross section/profile picture of the stuff as there is several different types out there.

but firstly do you have already have the chrome strip style rubbers? nearly everyone has the smooth Callook rubbers.

The stuff is a pain to work with especially the alumnium type which is what beetles 72 and earlier had, it likes to kink.
73 onwards had the plastic stuff which the chrome peeled off 5 mins after leaving the showroom and they went a nice shade of brown.

You have to pop the windows out to install it too if you have got the right window rubbers.

Im putting the car back together after paint. So i bout new rubbers with the trim groove, and the windows are still out as i havent put the headliner in. It did have the original metal ones in it but obviously impossible to remove without kinking. The one in the listing is PVC, so its semi flexible, well enough to roll it obviously, but like you said, depends on the shape and the shape of the groove...

The round trim MUST be inserted BEFORE the glass goes in...
the aluminium strips are very difficult to deal with although My Son still uses them...

I only tried once back around 1969...
I will admit that the windscreen shattered on a highway in the middle of now where... the service station [they were also everywhere] had a new windscreen... when the rubber came out it went all twisted along with the aluminium...
I pulled the trim out and threw it away.... [littering]

Never ever tried to install it since then...

The plastic beading [now very expensive in USA] the chrome comes off as it appears to be NON UV resistant...

If You only take Your beetle out of the garage on wet days,
then the chrome may last a long time.....

I put the chrome strips (actually plastic I think) in mine when I had it re-sprayed 3 1/2 years ago, and they are still fine. I got both the rubbers and the strip from Wolfsburg automotive, so I knew they would match.

I used the original trim in mine, It's not hard to remove if you are carefull, it is a bit fiddly to refit and you will have sore fingers for a while but not too hard to do.
