security and fire prevention
I was wondering what everyone does for security for their car and also fire prevention?
Has anybody fitted a fuel shut off valve that works off a remote? that way you could shut off fuel in a fire and also use it to prevent the car from
being driven off

i have the fuel cut off valve but its not hooked up to my alarm.

I wonder if a auto shutoff valve that shuts off when the ignition is turned off and needs a secret button pressed to restart it

sorry wont make that one got a party to go to starting at 3pm that day.
mines wired from the ignition to the valve to the oil sender, so when i loose oil pressure it cuts the fuel, i really need to wire in a button to help
me prime the system quicker.

Any automotive LPG outlet will sell you a solenoid valve to shut off the petrol. How you power it is up to you. I ran a hidden switch that killed the
power to the LPG system for years. Worked great.
The big advantage of this system is if anyone tries to steal your car the engine will run for a bit on the fuel in the carby. When it stops the theif
will probably then quickly abandon all attempts at restarting and piss off. This actually did happen to my car once.

Hi Paul, don't want to hijack your thread here but the engine fire thing is something that I'm also interested to learn more about.
An engine fire is the one thing that really worries me being the owner of a
40 year old VW. I've read some painful stories on AVD of VW's catching fire.
Being a newbie and currently going through the restoration process, I'm pretty keen
to have some method in place to put out a fire should one ever happen.
So is it just a matter of cutting off the supply of fuel to the running engine ?.
I've seen some suggestions that one of those automatic fire extinguishers systems
that floods the engine bay without opening the hood may be the way to go.
I'm concerned that the time needed to stop the vehicle, get my manual fire extinguisher out
and get the hood open may be all too late to avoid serious fire damage.
Prevention of a fire has got to be the initial focus I guess. Then putting out
any flames would come next then. I'm interested to hear about other peoples fire prevention methods too.

No thats fine i am also concerned however the first thing i had done was have the fuel filter mounted under the pan outside the engine bay as a common
cause of fire is the bowl splitting and spraying fuel all over the engine.
No sure the shut off valve would reduce the risk much but i was just trying to both make the car more secure and possibly reduce the risk of extreme
fire by shutting off the fuel however i think by the time you notice smoke coming from the engine bay it may be too late?

trust me you will smell a fuel leak well before it catches fire. trust me i been bloody close after 2 fuel regulators shat themselves while driving.

I guess the other thing is the bug is insured although not enough to cover my total investment but enough to buy another i guess

Hi Paul,
My electric fuel pump only pumps when its switched on...
BIG lamp to say its ON.... and only on with ignition...
I also have a remote alarm connected to the doors bonnet engine cover....
another guy on here switches his ignition to a flasher unit
and when it is started.... it goes on & off.... start & stop...

Check all the brass tube's that are part of the carb and fuel pump to make sure that they are not lose, if they are you can tap them and fit a
threaded connecton with a barbed end, then replace your fuel line every two years with a good quality hose and check your fuel system over every year.
carry a quality fire extinguisher.
