Regards to chop tops

In terms of a chop top which base model beetle is best?
From what i can tell the only difference between most models except the curved super is that the older beetles are oval rear windows and the early supers are square.
I know the oval would look better but other than the look of the rear window would there be any reason to go with an earlier model bug when doing a chop top?

All of the windows change several times actually. The front and rear windscreens changed at least three times each during the bug's life in Australia and the side windows got bigger once or twice as well. It depends on what you want.

When you say 'chop top', do you mean cutting it down into a convertible, or chopping the roof to make it lower? Either will probably need engineering approval to be legal.
