So she's painted... Now what
Hi,
This is my first VW, my first project car, and my first solo paint job. Still fairly new around here. I'm really stoked with the result, given its my
first and a garage paint job.
Been doing alot of research re; acrylic finishing, and I'm pretty happy with general jist of the process. The vibe i get though is the that buffing
and machining should not be done by a solo first timer? And i have not got the equipment yet...
So...
Anyone got advice in the direction i should head? Just pay someone to do it for me? can i do it by hand with a foam disc?
(It's got 5 1/2 colour and 3 1/2 clear - no roof coat on last ones)
Heres how it came out. (sorry bad photos in the shed but you get the idea..)

hey Scratch buffing an acrylic painted car is simple though experience does help
if i was you i would start cutting back with 2000 wet , and than buffing it
start in a section wher you don't see , cause if you do stuff it up , blending some colour and clear will not be as noticeable
avoid corners, edges and points as much as you can cause you tend to cut through them first
also do small sections at a time

Be VERY careful when buffing using an electric/air buffer. It's all too easy burning the paint.
Thats not rust, it's ah ... orange primer ... yep that's what it is ...

Ha! I think my girlfirend would kill me if i used the garage as a booth again. Red dust EVERYwhere..
I'm still not sure where to go with finish. I went and bought some 1200, 1500 and 2500 grit paper to smooth it out abit.
McGuires has a medium, light and swirl remover available at supercheap. Go with the light and swirl?
If anyone knows someone in Adelaide who can do it, I'd probably just rather pay. Would a paint shop do it? Or are there dedicated detailers who would
do new paint finshes?

Thanks for the link. Good stuff. I rubbed back with 1200 tonight on some of the rougher areas. now im nearly done with the 1500. Going to go to 2500
next and probably just pay a car detailer to do the rest. I really don't want to risk it.
Anyone in Adelaide worth a ring?

Cheers for all the help guys. I've decided to book in a mobile cut and polish guy to finish the job.
I priced the 3m range of buffing system and it came to $300 plus. No thanks.
I'll post when its done.

May I ask what paint you used? ..... I am looking at Dupont but any other paints that have worked well will seriously be considered!
