turning ignition off and engine runs for a few secs and rumbles
hi there,
as i just changed my generator, since then when i sometime turn the ignition off the engine still spins and then shakes the car and stops, any ideas
... thoughts ... i was thinking that it may have something to do with the belt from the generator, maybe a bit too tight....
help.... |

oasis,
it sounds like it's the same thing that happened to you, how did you go with yours ... what i can think off it maybe that when i put the
generator back on i prob moved the plate and the timing is a bit out.... not sure .... better get my hands dirty then i guess... |

Yeah, the bearings in my generator were rooted, and one Kad was leaking fuel. New generator and carby kit and it's all fixed thanks to Richard.
I'm not really mechanically minded but I'm more than willing to learn off anyone who is pulling anything apart so I can watch... I want to
eventually fix things myself (the Gold Coast is probably a bit far though).

Mine does this too very occasionally. Just wondering (out of interest so don't flame me) why this running on thing is such a bug problem to
people? It's only for a few seconds, just get out the car and leave it.

Yeah, you're probably right. It may not be a big deal as long as it doesn't do any damage. It does some pretty horrendous shaking though.

Apparently it does do damage.
I've been told to overcome it by selecting 1st gear, clutch and brake in, then turn ignition off, wait half a second then dump the clutch (to
'stall' it).
Saves doing damage. Anyone know what harm is done with run-on?

I can only guess that it does the same damage as "pre ignition" or "pinging"
You would not be firing at the correct timing and therefore be doing damage by putting stress on the internal componets at the wrong part of the
cycle.
The "pretty horrendous shaking" is caused by the firing say on the up stroke trying to force it down.
I have thought about this and will go out on a limb here. I still say it "should" be able to be tuned out. It seems to be prevelent in
Kadrons.
I have heard that Kadrons normally/naturally/inherently run rich
Maybe that is the cause.
Getting it to go away is the best answer.

Yeah. My idle has been too high, and I have been almost stalling it to stop it and it works. I just take the clutch out till it's about to stall
and turn it off with the key. It works fine, but what a pain in the arse. I'll eventually try and tune it out when I learn how to tune anything
in a car.
