Bug Eyed,
full points to you for making the effort to get some times and post them for rough comparisons. I did it at Valla a few years ago and it's not easy.
Earlier in this thread, Ben Durie chose to take a swipe at two Valla attendees by posting (words to the effect of) 'Greg's and Craig's VW's didn't look that quick' yet clearly, according to the times that you collated on the day, Craig's car was faster.
Ben also mentioned slicks, creating the impression in the minds of some readers of this thread that Greg and Craig were somehow 'cheating', despite the event being an unoffical meet. I cannot comment for Greg, but I'm quite sure Craig was 'driving' on the same old street-legal (but now quite worn) Falken rubber that was on his car the last time he won his class in the State Hill Climb Championship. As I posted earlier, your timing seemed quite consistent and no-one is - or has - questioned your efforts.
As both Greg's and Craig's cars are powered by Pobjoy 1916s, it seems pretty obvious to me that the only problem here is SLS - sore loser syndrome.

All for an event that wasn't even official!!:P

How would everyone feel about joining the Kempsey Sporting Car Club? I believe the reason for not being able to have official times is because CAMS deemed it a national event since people from interstate were attending, and hence a huge permit fee. So wondering if we all join Kempsey club, making it a club only day would make things a lot cheaper.

It wont stop any arguments because whoever comes second will have an excuse, but for me it would be nicer to have a competition.

*sigh nambucca*
My fastback still hasnt made it home from the last one and we are only 8 months away from the next.

sounds like a good idea. even if they ( the local club) ran it and just had it as a multi club event ( and happened to be on the same weekend as nambucca) it shouldn't be a problem if any body from interstate entered. I think the problem lies if they run it under the nabucca vw event.

Im not entirely sure but because some of the clubs were to be interstate clubs, not under the cover of CAMS NSW, thats where the difficulty lie. The permit has always been under Kempsey Club, which I believe Jan Munro is a part of.

It might be a bit of a nightmare if something happened and the addresses and licences are from interstate.

I just think it sucks that regular you and I club motorsport can be priced out of reach of regular you and I type people.

Sounds like a good idea Chris. Maybe we could hire a couple of transponders and a receiver etc and make it really offical? Or is your hillclimb gear portable?

Your cable ties work, dont need no spring. Wouldnt like to see the condition of the turbo bearings after that 2 minutes of wide open throttle and the shutdown. What can I do. Just run it it till it pops.

Kombi is going good now that I have changed my rusted fuel tank and the filters arent blocking every day. Apart from the oil leak I cant find. Its been 48 hours since it last stopped. Think there might be another reason the turbo wasnt running well. Fuel starvation.

I dont think I will be doing anything for a while. No money and not much chance of getting any soon. Will have to start saving every cent if I am to even get to nambucca. Might have enough for a one way train fare, not that it would be a bad thing.

Pete,
Our timing gear is very portable, but I dont think I have much chance of getting a loan of it.

Its just a light beam and reflector thingo that sends a signal down the wire to a stopwatch. You're a clever guy. Build one for us.
