What is this for?

Have just rebuilt my 1300cc motor and I am wondering what this hole in the tinware was for?

[size=4]hi,
that hole is for the preheater hose that takes hot air into the air filter in the winter..

You will see the hose fitting pipe on the bottom or the air filter where the air is sucked in..

its a paper type of hose similar to heater hoses on late engines BUT its smaller..

I think its about 30mm ??
where the later ones were 50mm inside diameter

Many VW shops would know what it is...

cheers

LEE

My 68 beetle has the larger SILVER hose on the RHS and a hot air pickup under the plate.. which pokes thru the tinware and the hose fits over it...
