So do you want to sell it, or just find out how much it's worth? There is only a handful of cars in this condition in Australia, most are tucked safely away, and hidden from public view. How on Earth can anyone here accurately tell you what it's worth. It's all speculation.

The only way you can truly find out what a car like this is worth (This stuff hardly ever appears anymore, almost never on the open market, actually never) Is to sell it at a reputable auction house like Shannons. This will involve actually selling the car though.

They will spend lots of time marketing the car, and it will sell for it's true value. You would be a fool trying to sell it any other way.

I did this for a car that all the "Experts" told me was not worth any more than 10k. I was able to negotiate a $15k reserve with the guy from Shannons and it ended up selling for $28k!
This was not a VW by the way. But it was incredibly difficult to put a value on because there was nothing else it could be compared to. Just like this.

BTW I can't even begin to tell you how F@#king incredible that Oval is! Good luck

Hmmm, also similar to my '54, factory black but with grey sides. Many more miles on mine though, was the old man's daily driver from '58-92!
Great car for someone, Classic Throttle Shop in Sydney would also get you a premium price for your car. Good luck!
Cheers

Plenty of car's at any Shannon's auction's get passed in with to higher expectation on the price.

The high price that seller wants at Shannons is more than likely due to the high pecentage that Shannons takes from the seller. I believe it is 25% of the hammer price.......and then there is the buyer that also gets slugged with the buyers premium.

That's true, plenty do. That's because they are not that unique, have owners who are tripping & caught up in a perceived muscle car boom that's been over for quite a few years now, have shiny new paint over crap, dodgily converted LHD's etc etc etc...

This is not one of those cars, and with all due respect to all of us on here, asking forum members, (most of who are looking for good bargains & pretty knowledgeable on rare VW's) is not a very accurate way to finding it's real value.

Anyway it's a moot point really because I doubt this car is really being sold at all. My guess is the owner is trying to guage interest at this stage. Time will tell.

Well farkengruven you believe wrong, It's not 25% at all! Nowhere near that high. But then you would know that if you had actually sold a car there, or given them a call, instead of making wild and highly innacurate speculations. It doesn't even have to be Shannons, Others have had great suggestions with Classicthrottleshop & Ian Cummings, There are other good places as well.

Don't take it personally, I'm a bit fired up today

pretty sure this car sold for 11k two years ago... ex melbourne

with our dollar so strong of late doubt it will have much/any overseas interest
and the main players in Aus like to find bargains themselves....

with split beetles selling around the 20k mark in all sorts of conditions i'd say this thing is placed between $13-18k

but what would I know - its worth what ya asking $___? minus a little negotiation and or the right buyer that really really wants it...!

so HOW MUCH do you want for it...?????
what does it owe ya - what is it insured for...?
only you can really say what its worth or at least make up a starting point...!

When it sold almost 3 years ago for $11k is was a bit of a bargain. VW prices have softened since then, but I'm with Ben - $13-18k.
If it still had completely original paint & wheels, then $20+wouldn't out of the question.

No offence taken, I can only speak from my own experience a few years ago, actually it might have been 5 or 6 years ago, can't remember exactly. I enquired about putting a car in one of their auctions, the Melbourne GP auction. They told me the 25% figure back then. Maybe it has changed since then, but that is what I was quoted. I didn't go ahead with it. So, it wasn't a wild and highly innacurate speculation.

Hey I was in a shitty mood this morning, I shouldn't take it out on you. My apologies for getting all self righteous on you, maybe those auctions do have a higher premium. i know I was charged a lot less, but that was in Sydney a few years ago & it was just a regular auction.

Peace and mung beans and all that crap
