Type 3 Wiper switch on a '66 Beetle

Has anyone used a Type 3 single speed wiper switch in a Beetle? The original switch that came out of a '66 Beetle was the turn to operate the wipers type while pulling to operate the washer. The rubber diaphragm had disintegrated and I replaced the switch withe the wiper switch from a Type 3 (the switch with the button in the middle you push to operate the washer.

The numbering of the Type 3 switch is differetn to the Beetle numbering.

Does anyone know if the 53a connection on the Type 3 is the same as the 54 on the Beetle? Also, where would I connect the 53 and 53b on the switch to the 54d and 31b on the wiper motor?

Any help will be greatly appreciated?

Norm
