You can get it plated, my neighbour just did it. a simple inspection and a roadworthy and your done. I was under the impression they could no longer be registered here but I was very wrong.

Without the original approval to convert the beetle to a manx complete with a final inspection stamp they cannot be legally regested in Queensland. a lot of manx's do not have the approval and have been regested using dubious means,

I'm not interested in starting another manx rego argument but as far as i'm aware this is all legit, With QLD tansport documents to prove it.

So he must have the original approval to convert it, having a blue plate on the car does not prove that it is regested legally as a manx, this could be for some other modification that has been passed by a engineer. i have a manx with the correct approvals and have spoken to the main roads about getting it regested and as i said you must have the original approval to regester a SWB manx legally

no original paperwork, I think it has more to do with the qld transport document the engineer has given him.

If it has previously in it's life been registered as a SWB Manx, then it can be re-registered as such. If it is a new conversion then it will require engineers approval. Shortened wheelbases are a tricky area, and not just a simple blue plate.

The reason the main roads in queensland wants the original approval is because people shortened the pan in the back yard probably very poorly, the approval is the only record of the vehicle being shortened, rang a engineer at the Queensland main roads and was told that with no original approval i would not be able to register my manx legally, previous rego would only apply if it was registed as a myers manx, lucky i have all the original paper work,, next stop was shannons and asked them about insurance on the manx, i already have two cars with them, he stated that they knew a lot of cars ( not only manx's) that they insure do not have the correct approvals, but they were prepaired to accept there money until you have a accident, then they will simply ask you to produce the original approval to convert and a engineer's report for any other mods that have been carried out, with out it your insurance is void and you are on your own. if your neighbour has the paper work that approves the conversion in retrospect it would be of interest to a lot of people, maybe you could scan the document and post it here so other people can use it's contents to do the same

I'll have a look at it over the weekend some time, I think from memory it actually has a list of pre approved swb buggies on it.

Finally got to see him, Here is the document he was given by the engineer.... The engineer has told him to take this document with him when he goes to the transport dept. The buggy now has engineering approval, and a roadworthy. SWB meyers manx. I am not saying, nor going to argue that this is a solution to getting manxes registered but this seems to be a legitimate way of doing it and it is currently working in his favour.

The document above only specifies that the SWB Meyers Manx and other similar buggies are treated as ICV's but are exempt from fibreglass testing and beaming and tortional testing in QLD. All other ICV's are not.

This in itself with a Blue plate and RWC would not be enough.

Does it not say that the blue blue plate with said codes are an alternative to an original approval letter?

It say's that you can apply to the main roads dept for a new letter of approval if you have proof of previous rego, the vehicle would have to be regoed as a "IE" a manx on the rego papers when previous regoed, this would suggest that the manx had the approval but the approval has been lost, if it was not regoed as a manx i think the only way to rego it would be a ICV
