engine missing around 3000rpm??? :S:S:S

hi all, i have a 1964 beach buggy which is having some problems running. It is fine at idle but as i am going through gears it will miss a little around 3000rpm then it will be fine after that and as i reach around 100kmph after a couple kilometers it will start missing and lose accelleration then i will shift down gears it will continue missing and losing momentum and rpm then continue all the way through until i come to a complete stop then it will stall. After 10 or so minutes it will start up and the process will continue. any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi
I Need to know what Distributor [vacuum type??][ 009??]
and carby You are using.. {Solex 30 PICT 2?}

sounds like it may be a fuel problem...
as when You push the accelerator down [at any speed] the extra fuel should get the engine running again...

If its a vacuum only distributor - the vacuum diaphram may be leaking [worn out] and losing advance at speed..

can you read the numbers on the distributor??
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OR it can be a spark problem... depending on quality of parts

Coil breaking down?? at speed?

rotor button breaking down??
Condensor breaking down?? [common]
distributor cap breaking down??
Points worn down or shorting?? [common]

Main spark plug leak to coil breaking down..??
[common on carbon or silicone leads]

All the above things do fail and should be renewed

they were replaced frequently when serviced by VW mechanics back in the 50s, 60s & 70s...

BUT MY Guess is the first one...

cheers

Lee in Freezing Scone... lol

If it starts again after a while I'd bet it's a fuel problem, mine had the same problem that haunted me for weeks, turned out to be a blocked fuel filter, replaced that and the problem disapeared, seemed that just enough fuel was getting through till I reached a speed that required more fuel than it could get through.
