T3 Wasserboxer Gearbox Question

Hi Everyone,

First posting, so hopefully I have done it correctly.

Can anyone tell me if the 5 speed gearbox/transaxle from a 1.9 and a 2.1 are the same?

Thanks in Advance,

in what way do you mean "the same"
answer 1 is NO, one has 4 forward gears, the other has 5!
answer 2 is yes, both take up the same amount of space and can be swapped without too much fuss
answer 3, is NO the ratios are different, but 5th = 4th on a syncro.
answer 4 is yes the gear linkage enters the same side and operates the same way.
answer 5 is yes, if both boxes are 5 speed. (not 100% sure about 1st gear ratio, but i'll do some home work)

hope that covers what you are looking for.

Thanks for the replies,

What I was wanting to know is whether the 5 speed from an 84/86 1.9 water-cooled 2wd T3 is the same (or interchangeable with) the 5 speed from a 87/91 2.1 2wd T3.

And if they are not the same but are interchangeable, what the differences are.

Cheers,

They are interchangeable, but the ratios may differ slightly.
