New to Veedubbers
Hello,
We're on a mission, after two combi's in the distant past, we've dragged out a beautiful, 1962 Bug, she's in need of some TLC and will be a
restoration project......
She's been in the family for most of her life and parked in a shed undercover for the last 35years. My uncle was going to restore her when he retired
but alas that wasn't to be. Hopefully we can save her......
But we are going to need lots of help, parts and advice. We went along and checked out the VW's at Croudace Bay a couple of weeks ago, we were very
impressed and inspired.
Any bets on how many years it's going to take ????????

Firstly welcome to the forum there are lots of experienced people here who can offer you advice and help.
having not fully restored a vw before i can only comment and what i have read. What you are asking is similar to how long is a piece of string.
Depends on how far to restore, if you are pulling the body off the pan and replacing every bolt then you are talking several years.
It also depends on how much $$ and how quickly you are prepared to spend. from what i have seen here 3 - 5 years is what a good restore job takes
although I am sure many others can offer better advice

Yeh we're sure it's going to be huge job and thinking 2 to 4 years... hopefully.
I suppose the $$$$$ question is also a question of 'how deep is the hole? Hopefully we'll be able to do a bit at a time and save up for the big
expenses.
She's fairly good inside, most of the seats and door panels are in good nick, The passenger front needs work, and the body needs work in some places,
some rust and somewhere along the line she lost her front left guard which has been replaced with a later model one and doesn't match the other.
Lots to do! One step at a time.

Try and set a budget and stick to it although easier said than done of course it depends no what you want to do.
If you do the work yourself you can save a lot of money however even so its not a cheap hobby. By the time i do my interior and install a new engine
including the price of my cat it will cost around $25K and that does not include a respray.
Will i get my money back NOWAY do I care NO lol my bug is never for sale

LOL.... never is a long time!!!!!
Can't imagine we'll be selling ours, she's been in the family for almost 50 years....
Budget... yes very sensible but SCARY!!!! Maybe I'll just pretend we've got one!
Planning on taking her back to orgiinal, but not being too finicky, keep some of her soul and help her to smile again.
I think the dust got a bit heavy on her shoulders.
