Lsd bus box ?

Have recently fitted 3 rib kombi box to baja and is much better to drive offroad/beach. I am now am thinking at some latter date to have it rebuilt but with Lsd this time. #1 Is this possible in 3 rib box ?
#2 Would it make a marked difference offroad ect ?
#3 Very rough costing for rebuilt Lsd box ?
Thinking with the low ratios and a set of 33' on rear may be a good beach combo !

I went up that path some years ago with my Baja bus.
There are factory LSD from the syncro's, but that means fitting the late model box and making shift linkages to match. The lsds won't fit in the early boxes. Those horrible lockrite things are available, but are bad enough in a combi. I did hear of people making kits to suit and I swear I have seen one in a green manx on the gold coast, one of the Volks-mod boys perhaps? Give them a bell.
Otherwise LSD is available for the type 1 box ( although this is a step backward) At the end of the day it's all possible, but the bottom line is you're looking at big money and or mods. Also though I know why an LSD is desirable, with something with a light front end like a Baja. Have you ever been on the beach trying to turn around and the front just doesn't seem to want to turn? Always just traveling forward with the front wheels acting like plows? With an LSD you will always have this, a locker would be advantageous because you can turn it OFF.

May I offer an alternative? What I have been running I my beach cars are cutting brakes, one wheel starts to spin you can apply the brake and force the power to the wheel that is stationary. They can be picked up for about 250 bucks plus a few dollars for lines, brackets ect- full set up about $350

Thanks nils, it is something to think about. I think all us vw beach drivers know that feeling turn, turn, turn you bas*#@d and it is always when we have a approaching 4wd.
Will do some more research.

Anything is possible, I did a box a while ago in a Baja Kombi that had an 091 LSD with a 1600 R&P in an 1800 case..... Just depends how much money you want to spend
