Headlights

Hi All

I'm new to this forum. Just wondering if anyone has tried fitting replacement headlights with Parker/H4/H3 to a 71 bug. The ones I got don't seem to fit that well. Also every book I've looked at says I should have sealed beams but mine were not. Any ideas or advise would be appreciated.

Cheers.

they are a bit smaller and you don't need the screws on the chrome ring to adjust .

Hi

Sealed beams were US market thing, there were not allowed to have powerful headlights in the US.

You can easily buy some bases that will hold semi sealed beams from Narva or get them from a old mini and use your old headlight rims to cover it all up.

Those 3 chamber lights have pretty nasty build quality, and I've noticed that alot of them have the LHD pattern lenses too.

that's the downside of cheap imported parts that comes from Brazil and Mexico.

Yeah, I've gotta be honest, I'm not completely happy with them although they were recommended by parts guy. I'm a bit weary of buying more important components such as brakes. I'm actually finding it pretty hard to get a good parts supplier, particularly in Adelaide.

I had sealed beams fitted to MY 71 Super back in the 70s...

and I have had Hella H4 sealed and semi sealed beams in My beetles and type 3...

I use a headlamp bracket from an early ford falcon..

and mod them to fit...

the late beetles 1303S L beetle had Bosch semi sealed beams screwed to the guard/fender bucket...
they were adjusted on the bracket...
The chromed plastic rim only had one screw in it...

Correct there Sbug71, in Adelaide there is nothing!

If you want parts, I recommend the following sites, in Australia.
http://vollks.com.au
http://justkampersaustralia.com
http://classicveedub.com.au

That should give you enough to go through and have a look at lights. They (Just Kampers) even have a video of how to install them and so forth. Very good watch.
