Best Way to Store an Empty Fuel Tank
OK, I have finished painting the outside of my fuel tank and it is now empty. It will go into storage until I need it further down the track, which I
estimate will be at least a year if not 2 as we all know how long these resto projects take.
So what's the best way to store it so it doesn't rust from the inside out?
Do I spring for the POR15 fuel tank repair kit or can I use some kind of oil based product and wash it out with a water-based degreaser before I
install it?
Any thoughts on this?

Hi
I would just put some engine oil in it... 1/2 a litre would do
seal it all up and turn the tank in all directions until You think the oil would coat all the surfaces
then leave it... the oil will stop any rust...
and just pour it out when You need it.. the engine oil coating the tank will mix with fuel with no effects..
cheers

2 stroke oil is recommended for this process.

I would be interested to know where you could get a tank tin/lead dipped like the old commy tanks.
25 years still no rust is enough proof on the concept. plus its easy to paint.

You could try lead wiping, bit of an art but covers and sticks well if well prepared, use a google tutorial
