How thick is 60's beetle sheet metal?
Looking at buying a Mig welder and doing some body work myself on my baja. Well weighing up options of getting it professionally done or having a go
myself.
Looking at a few gasless and gas migs. Trying to work out the power that i need to be able to weld both sheet metal rust repairs and barwork etc.
So in short how thick is beetle sheet metal? 1mm?

and would 40amps as a minimum setting burn holes?
im looking at a 120amp Mig. adjustable down to 40amps with option for gas.

In general I don't think that gasless MIG welders are any good for panels. They're really only designed for thicker steel and crude welding, like
farm machinery and ironwork, etc. To weld panels I would recommend gas.

like i said i am looking at gas. most can do both. more just trying to get the amp range right.

if you can get your skills up, tig is best for panels.
Hell! you can weld coke cans and razor blades with precision using a tig.

Well after doing quite a bit of looking around and numerous phone calls i have ordered a welder.
its a Ross RXT150p 30amp - 150amp Mig Comes with some gasless comsumables, mask, brush, hammer and gas regulator
ordered through Mitre 10.
The machine has a RRP of $485 and he did not have one in stock. i quoted a few prices on ebay items etc and he said he could do it for $425 which was
still more than I could get an SIP machine shipped from Melbourne. He made another phone call and I ended up locking in $379 for the kit.
Pretty pleased with that.
Do you guys recomend disposable gas bottles? Hire? buy and refill?

Its a pity that your not in Sydney, Central coast or Newcastle, there is a company called Speed Gas that you can buy your cylinder from, no more
rent.
There maybe someone down your way that does the same thing
