Help Identifying Body
We were at the wreckers today buying parts for our falcon and found a super rough baja shell and pan. After having a closer look I noticed the
cutouts for the semaphores but the larger rear window. They guy was about to crush it (we had 1 minute to decide according to him) so we decided to
save the body and bought it home with us. The only body number I can find was at the front and appears to be C(I think)15700. Does anyone have any
idea what model it is? It also had an alloy Made in West Germany tag attatched if that helps. I have a picture of the number but not sure how to
attatch it.

Thanks for that super quick reply. Would that be the complete body number or is it part of it still covered over with paint? Is there anyway I can
find out which year, I looked on a few sites listing the numbers but couldn't find a match for it.

We didn't take the pan as it had been really chopped up and pretty much useless, plus we had no way of getting the whole thing home in a hurry (we
bought the body home on a box trailer which was "fun". The chassis number is on the pan isn't it?
We are not sure what to do with it, if its worth fixing the rust and refitting the pannels chopped off for the baja swap or possibly putting it back
together as a baja again.

Here are a couple of pics (hopefully they work). As you can see it has been chopped pretty hard but body wise is pretty straight and other than a bit
of rust at the bottom of the A pillars its supprisingly good for rust.

Is there anyway to tell which year it would be? I am guessing there probably isn't enough of it left to tell for sure lol. This is probably a "how
long is a piece of string' type question but is it worth fixing the body? Just in my unexperienced eyes I can see it would need pretty much all the
front panels (I have seen a complete replacement front clip from classic VW) rear bumper panels (inner wings) and rear valance panel to get it back to
a "complete" shell plus any rust repair panels needed.

Australian Beetles replaced the semaphores with bllinkers in November 1960. Same time as the 40-hp engine and all-syncro gearbox were introduced, as
well the flatter fuel tank, suction pump wipers and padded sunvisors.
Australia was always a few months to a year or more behind Wolfsburg.
