Which Rear Shocks?

Shazza needs new rear shocks :(

As you know she is slammed at the back 2 notches so need something short and gas.

What do people use on their slammed rides?

KYB GR2 v Bilstein v Koni v Pedders Black Touring

Do Bilstein and Koni do a short shock?

Keen to know thoughts im fine with a firm ride i just dont want it to bottom out on the ride.

Had some Emp Oil shocks and I binned them as they were crap!

KONI & BILSTEIN are the rolls royce of shocks..

so long as you have the rubber bump stops still there

any gas shock or heavy duty shocks should do...

remembering that gas shocks will push your car upwards
where oil shocks don't ... they just absorb shocks up or down..

measure how long your shocks need to be...
extended and closed...

as mentioned above, if bump stops are still in place then the stock length shock will do.

Dont forget BOGE shocks if you dont want gas filled, BOGE are original fitment on VW, Porsche, etc.

what do i need to measure?

Do you want me to measure guard to the ground or centre of wheel to guard?

Will this help determine if i need a standard shock or short shock?

I had a pair of gabriel red ryder in the back but they were a bit too firm but I got them for like $25 second hand
now running empi adjustable which were too soft(shocks) for my liking but then again I got them for a bargain.

and I think... Lee meant measuring the centre of the shock absorber bolt hole top and bottom when extended and close.

What are your thoughts on the Gas adjusts?

On the Samba they say they are too stiff and GR2 is the best compromise?

I was at Classic and will get a pair of GR2's

I found the GR 2 to soft, i have the gas ajusts on both of my cars including my karmann convertable, both ride excellently, far better than the bilstiens that i had on two other beetles.

those GR2 shocks look OK to Me

most gas shocks I have seen are too hard..

but by reading the reviews etc they seem OK

especially for the rear of My beetle..

cheers

There is a lot of myths surounding gas shocks, you cannot judge them until you have had them on your car, it might not be the shocks making the ride hard but your tyre choice or some other modification that has been done to it. GR2 are a replacement for a standard shock, the gasajust is a perfornace shock

whats the word on koni performance stocks? (yellow ones)

The bilstein seem to be the most expensive so why do some people say they leaky crap while others say they are the bomb?

more expensive than the other 2 brands is probably a better way to put it.

109 euro each isn't expensive for a shocker?

I had the KYBs gas on mine at first. Admittedly I was a bit rough on them with a fair amount of 2 wheeling but I bent them. Never had a problem with the konis.

not vw but geebus! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VP-VZ-Commodore-IRS-Rear-KONI-Sports-Shock-Absorbe...

Price doesn't seem right or is it? the KYB whole car sports set (including front struts) is the same price.

the front KONI are $650 a pair and the rears $520
adjustable konis...

Konis are excellent shocks... great price for KONIs..

KYB are also great shocks but now the rolls royce of shocks..,

LEE

Late model front shocks these days are VERY expensive.. as nearly every car has different shocks..???
to fit the different springs..
and they are not konis.. lol

late model? :?:

Yeah the adjustability of it may have something to do with the price.
