Wheel bearings to suit 72 superbug

Howdy,

The old girl is in need of new front wheel bearings. Classicveedub supply replacement kits, but I've no idea about the quality. Has anyone had any experience with them? Are they going to last or should I be looking elsewhere?

Cheers

Hi

Ask what brand they are, if they're not a recognized brand give them a miss.

Holy crap that is synchronicity, I've only just finished uploading a front wheel bearing replacement vid to youtube...

Just out of curiosity, whats the price on the bearing kit?

4 KBC bearings and 2 grease seals from the local bearing shop was around $60 from memory a few years back when I bought them.

I will if I call them, I haven't had a lot of luck extracting brand information from them via email in our past dealings...

Still waiting for a quote. Going by what I've seen online, I wouldn't expect it to be more than your KBC items.

Wheel Bearings

Hi,
when I was in Canada they had an event at all the VW dealerships called I think "Old Vols Home". I brought in my 65 Convertible Beetle, and the mechanics told ne not to use the replacement bearings for a Beetle. The sealed bearings for a Golf are identical, and a much better choice. BTW, they replaced all my bearings for free that day.

Cheers, Gus

Hi

The Golf and Passat both used the same rear wheels bearings as a bug, but are not sealed, they are 2 piece like all bug front wheel bearing.

The Golf and Passat did however use a sealed double row front wheel bearing.

Steve, are these front bearings not interchangeable with the Beetle then? Not that I was planning to use them, asking purely out of interest.

Thanks everyone for your input. Classicveedub never got back to me so I ended up ordering through a local bearing shop. I've used these people before and never had any complaints. Price just over $70 for a full front end kit.

Cheers
Bart
