1600 engine in a left hand vw

Hi guys,

Just need some advice. I've got a KG lowlight that is comming in a looking at purchasing a beetle 1600 engine to replace the 1200 that is in my car. Would this be a straight easy swap or there will have to be a changes made due to my car being left hand drive. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks

1600's are 12 volt and your 1200 is 6 volt

There will be a muck around with the flywheel fitting in the bell housing or you will need to change gear boxes or..........................

12V to 6V, flywheel and clutch are the main things. as Bizarre says.

Also some subtle wiring differences... 1600's had an electric auto-choke, while lowlight Ghia's would have had a manual cable-pull choke for example... oh and 1600's also have an electro-mag cutoff on the pilot jet in the carb.

They're all just because of developments that VW made with the engines, and all very do-able... being Left or Right hand drive doesn't really come into it.

I know, I want to convert to 12 volt as 6v is a pain in the a. But I thought I just need to change the clutch and fly wheel only when it comes to the gear box?

Oh - actually, no - they're all EXTREMELY difficult things to do and will make your lowlight INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE to get on the road here.

I'll give you a couple of g for it so you can recoup some of your costs, and save you all the hassle...

The 12V flywheel is bigger than the 6V one, so generally need to do some clearancing inside the bell housing is all.

You shouldn't have to change the gearbox that I can see... absolute worst case you just throw a 6V flywheel onto the 1600 engine.

Clearancing I've been told is onlu about 1 millimeter around the bellhousing.
