The Tassie Kombi Adventure

Here are a couple of pics from our trip so far.
Left Brisbane Friday morning just over a week ago.
We have travelled to Melbourne, visiting Newcastle, Sydney on the way. Boat across on Wednesday night and since then 2 nights at Launceston and 2 nights at Bay of Fires. Tonight we are in Freycinet. The drive from Launceston to St Helens gave the kombi a good workout.

Driving into Melbourne last Monday

Marcus ,
You should have mentioned this trip earlier dude , as i grew up (well as much as i ever have ) in Tassie and know some nice spots to camp / check out .
But apparently you have already found one of them in the Bay of Fires and particully Swimcart Beach which a spent many summers fishing and surfing etc .
Nice photo's

Andrew

Great to see the trip going well buddy, hope Trish's camper is still purring, watch for speed cameras dude ;)

My step dad had a family squatters hut on Taylors beach near the Bay of Fires I believe. The beach was named after his family, they fished the area years ago.....

Keep posting pics and safe travels.

Sounds like a good trip ahead, Tazies on my bucket list for a road trip but I've been grounded for a while after the last one. Keep the commentary and pics coming.

Hope you have a great trip. That's about how we started our round Oz trip, stright down to Tazzie. Had a great two weeks down there, the trip from Brissy to Melb was the run-in on the newly rebuilt motor :)

Thanks for the well wishes.
The dual 36 dellortos are only noticeable in the back seat.
Dual children kept quiet by I-devices.
The kombi is purring along beautifully Matt.
With a GPS I have discovered that 70mph on the speedo is a real 100km/h.
We have been happily sitting on that for the trip.
Off to do the walk to Wineglass bay today.
Here is a pic of Honeymoon bay where we are camping.

Some more travelling done.
Just catching up on some pics from our stay at Freycinet
We did the Wineglass and Hazards Beach circuit (makes my old body hurt to walk that far)
In Hobart now getting ready for the NYE bash at the Taste of Tasmania
Beautiful place this Tassie

http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/ww235/vassy66T1/National%20Lampoons%20Tasmania%20Trip/HoneymoonBay2.jpg

And Mt Wellington: kept the Kombi engine and brakes honest.
I checked the tappets and plugs and gave the carbies a tweak. Tappets all very close to spot on and plugs looked great. After a tweak I had better balance on the carbs again.

Trip around Tassie continues.
In Mt Field currently. Had a blast at Hobart with seeing the boys on Investec Loyal win the race and NYE at the Taste of Tasmania.
First photos are of Bruny Island.
Next 4 are of Mt Field NP where we are now. I really like this place (Mt Field especially)
Tomorrow we are off to Cradle Mountain for a 4 night stop before we head for home.

Cutest little black Bunny I have ever seen. Right next to our camper

I've been having recurring dreams of a 5 speed (for this and the ute) but notice that Berg say theirs will only fit pre 67 :grind::grind:

Solutions??? (and yes I know of Subarugears and may consider that: VW 1st option if I can)

This is an option available for the bus box from Bergs,
but you may have to do something nice
for that lovely mature quail of yours to approve the budget:

Thanks Dave
Does that mean it will fit both the box in my ute (the 1800 box) and the 1600cc 002 box in the Dormobile?
I was not sure when they spoke of the bus 5 speed only fitting pre 67.

It is designed to be used on the 002 early and late bus box like you have.
Fron mountings will be different though, to make it fit.
They have another(the original) version that suits the bug box which is also used in pre-67 bus.

Another option, if you can find some more torque,
is a wide ratio 4 speed,
or taller diff ratio that Albins make for those bus boxes.
