HI

I didn't look at the article....

Toyota and Subaru have been working on a rear wheel drive
sports car that is affordable... [under $40,000Au]

the car is all SUBARU with Subaru engine and transmission..

Toyota will replace the front bumper to make it look a bit different... inside is all subaru..

Subaru did NOT want to sell it in Australia due to their
ALL OUR CARS ARE AWD.... policy in Australia...

but have relented.. and the car will be sold in Australia..

I wonder if Nissan will do what they did years ago with the falcon ute.. want any parts go to a ford dealer... ;lol
nissan pulsar sold by Holden - nissan engined commodores..
etc..

It has a predictable shape, but nowadays most cars have that cloned shape. It might be aerodynamically efficient, but it's getting just a little repetitive and boring. I now need to read the label to know what a car is.

Don't forget that towards the end of their careers, the Beatles music became repetitive and boring. We are overdue for a change in vehicle shapes.

At least it doesn't have a wanker wing on the rear end.

....yet.....but it will. And SARD, ENKEI and RAZR stockers down the front guard....and a cannon exhaust....
It won't take long.

Given time we it will give more options as there will probably be more of the Toyota version sold than the Subaru due to their superior dealer numbers.

from what i read, the block only was given to toyota by subaru, toyota then developed the direct injection engine from there.....essentially a toyota engine/engineering in subaru running gear. can only be a good thing!

Hi

This car will appeal to the drifters who have been left with not many options, 86 being an iconic number in adrift circles as well, maybe Nissan will bring out another Silvia.

Will be interesting

http://www.caradvice.com.au/143882/toyota-ft-86-performance-data-sheet-leaked/

It is suppose to weigh 1230-ish kg's - which, I think is bloody light. Cant see dimensions, but I am guessing it is Celica sizes??
A 2005 Silly Car weighed in at 1580kg's

My Polo only weighs 1180 kg's
A Golf R is 1,476 kg's and it's torque is 330Nm @ 2400-5200rpm

Seeing as it has AWD it just seems bloody light in the torque figures

It doesn't have AWD. It uses an Aisin 6 speed gearbox to transmit torque to the rear wheels.

Now that would be a nice conversion!

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

[size=4]that is why it wasn't coming to Australia as the Management in Australia wanted all subarus to be AWD...

but... now its coming here... as it should sell...

designed by Subaru & Toyota together...

they both wanted a rear wheel drive Not expensive sports car... the BRZ will be more expensive than the Toyota 86 as it will be top of the line only...
from what I've read...

but Subaru RWD running gear...

No. Subaru engine only (with Toyota direct injection).
Aisin 5 speed RWD transmission (same as Honda S2000) and a random rear differential. Probably a Subaru/Nissan R180

also I read somewhere a while ago that the subaru one MAY have AWD.

I read somewhere the engine has a shorter sump and sits lower in the car than other Subarus.

Could be a good engine for conversion into VWs.

Oh yeah, it will be a ripper for putting into VW's. This Subie engine is even more compact than previous ones, has a shorter sump and still retains the same bellhousing pattern so we can fit reversed 5 speed and 6 speed subie transaxles. It's going to get real busy in the conversion market.....
