My MkI Golf Racecar fantasy
I've been having erotic dreams about building a twin engined MkI Golf race car. I mean.... how hard could it be. This brain child comes from looking
at 2 cars owned by guys in my car club. One is a mini... well a mini shell, with fabricated rear suspension, the front end is cut off at the A pillars
and fabricated with honda running gear. The other is a twin mini engined special.
I could easily trade my brand loyalty and drive a honda mini if someone gave it to me, but if am paying, why not start with a golf. And why not
combine the two ideas? Yeah there would be no real class for me to run in but I'm not a trophy hunter so who cares.
And maybe i could do this one slowly(but not as slow as my 20yr oval project). Start with a bone stock golf and have a little play. Let the daughter
have a bit of play and learn to drive. Build up a super strong cage. Some massive weight loss program, engine one power upgrade, then the simple task
of hanging a second engine off the back of the cage.
So I'm gonna start this just as soon as I am finished my threesome with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson. Anyhow I was looking at a golf build
in the UK and it had serious rust issues just like an old beetle. Actually it was pretty banged up underneath too so I dont know why they didnt start
with a different shell. Do our Golfs have structural rust issues?

Yes, but just structural not really rust. Get a German one.

What about putting (dare I say it) Subaru drive train in the front AND rear of a Superbug, then you could call it a DUBBLEGANGER.

The Twinnie still gets out and about but not as much as it used to. Warren has had several back operations in recent years none of which have been
entirely successful. Half of his problems are probably related to the car and its clutch pedal! The car has so much history with Huntley that I'd
love to take it on when Warren retires from racing altogether but I cant really see the finance ministry allowing it (or any other automotive fantasy
I have, cant even have a road going polo). I think the rear engine gearshift linkage on it goes through the gearbox where the reverse gear cog once
was. No idea if you could do something similar with a golf box. How does a f-vee shifter work? Cable? Would that work?
Come on Matt, now you're just being plain fanciful.

A TWIN-engined Golf! Great idea, it's been done a number of times so you aren't taking steps into the unknown. VW Motorsport built a twin-engined
Mk2 Golf to compete at Pikes Peak in the 1980s; they also built a twin-engined Scirocco.
The great thing about Mk1 Golfs is that parts are easy to come by - they were made in South Africa until just a few years ago (as the Citi Golf). The
Australian Mk1 was only made in 1976, and was still made of German panels that were assembled and painted here. From 1977 on they were fully
imported.
Here's an article on a twin-engined Mk1 from South Africa. Two 16V turbo engines, 600 kW plus, 0-100 under 4 sec, 280 km/h top speed. 10.6 sec
quarter mile.
