--- ve

the Negative Terminal is connected to the distributor
the Positive to the ignition [power]

do You have a pic of the engine?

a Complete wiring loom [new] is Very expensive.... $$$$

sounds like someone has been fiddling/modifying the wiring??

cheers

The -v wire (1) goes to the points. If there is a second wire, it goes to the VW Diagnosis socket or it is non standard which could be a tacho or engine immobilser/alarm.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

You can delete the socket and its associated cables.
