water proofing my engine parts
Hi im trying to completely water proof my engine . By using WATERPROOF IGNITION KIT for the distributor. i want to get the rubber seals that fit on
the ends of the spark plug cables. Does anyone know who sells these parts. plus if anyone else has ideas for waterproofing the engine really well be
awesome to here ur ideas. thanks.

-- I don't know much about water proofing -- but...
I think the coil pack thing would probably be a better way to go?

This thread btw is my sons and what he's after is the same as I have on my buggy and that's the rubber caps that fit on the lead ends and makes a
seal between the cap and the sparke plug plus I think he is also after the aftermarket boots that cover the distributor and the coil. What do you mean
by 'coil pack thing' ?

By serendipity, your VW has 5 electrical fingers just like the dr. shown here. "Nitrile" rubber gloves are more oil resistant than others.

the water proof kits have a piece to fit over the coil and the distributor cap...
rubber seals on the end of the spark plug seals???
which end?? coil I'm assuming...
just thinking, My spark plug leads that go into the distributor cap are 90 degrees so not much water going into those..
before I fitted these leads.. I just had normal VW wire leads and the rubber bits on top of the cap stop any water going down them... never had any
problems with moisture..
even with the engine lid open at top..

The real Ancientbugger here, I have found the part number for the caps, they fit over the end of the HT lead cap and seal to the ceramic of the spark
plug body therefore stopping the ingress of water (I don't really speak like this, I'm just showing off!) VW part number 311 905 444A. I thought
about surgical gloves but I'm not too certain about their longevity (showing off again). My own buggy is covered in grease and silicone and all kinds
of crap and doesn't have problems in the rain or even submerged but Micks' baja just needs a little bit of rain and it won't start. I might try
placing the coil on the firewall out of the weather (got this idea from Smiley in one of his posts - cheers mate) and see if that helps.
